We are a family owned and operated company and enjoy the pride of
handcrafting a product that is made in the United States of America
and always will be. Our springs are made by Leggett
& Platt, which make springs for all the major companies.
Joe
and Rita enjoy now what many years of hard work can do and affords
us the luxury of taking the time to answer all your questions and
also answer all those "whats and whys" that the grandchildren
ask. Together, we have 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and two cats.
We have no employees, only family and friends who help out from
time to time.
Joe
has been in the mattress manufacturing business since 1956. He began
learning the trade in his father's family owned mattress business
(known as Simmons & Simmons Bedding Company, founded in 1941).
Joe partnered with David Behrend and founded Custom Bedding, Inc.
in 1976. Joe and David established Custom Bedding to help fill the
need for a more personalized service to customers requiring odd
size mattess sets. They later began to manufacture prescription,
orthopedic, and special designed mattress sets for those who were
not satisfied with conventional bedding.
In 1994, Joe and
David sold their retail store for the dreams of semi-retirement.
David moved to New Ulm, and Joe and his wife, Rita, along with their
son opened a factory direct shop in San Leon, Texas. Joe and Rita
live on Dickinson Bay, but continue producing special size mattresses.
On
March 1, 2004, Joe, Rita, and Tobias opened a new retail factory
direct store in San Leon, Texas. Come by and see how we make your
mattress!
Our
son, Mike and his wife Teresa, handle the orders, measurements,
and deliveries in the Austin-Bastrop area, along with Joe's first
wife, Rose, and her husband, Beaumont. We look forward to teaching
the grandchildren how to do this work, so we can sit back, watch
them work, and fish.
A personal note from Joe
I
have been hand crafting mattresses from 1956 when I worked in my
father's shop, his name is also Joe Alesi (Simmons & Simmons
Mattress Co.) My mother, father, and aunts had been in the
mattress industry for many years before I entered the industry.
After school each day, I would work in the shop stuffing cotton
or down mattresses.
I
strongly suggest that no one alter an antique bed to fit standard
bedding on it. It was made to have a mattress on it somehow.
Price
wise - it is no more expensive to have a mattress made.
And
of course all work is guaranteed.
I
do not renovate an existing mattress as it would not be cost effective
to my customers.
I
will come to your home or shop for measurements and quotes or will
set an appointment to meet you at my shop. Just give us a call:
